Bad Elf Flex Mini: Upgrade to Flex Mini Extreme (BE-GPS-3500)

Overview:

This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to upgrade your Bad Elf Flex Mini Standard (BE-GPS-2500) to the Flex Mini Extreme (BE-GPS-3500). Please ensure your device is running firmware build 1314 or later before proceeding.

What You’ll Need:

  1. A Flex Mini device with the latest firmware.
  2. A smartphone or tablet with the Bad Elf Flex App installed (iOS or Android)
  3. Internet connectivity (cellular or Wi-Fi)
  4. Flex Mini Extreme upgrade purchased from Bad Elf

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Ensure You Have the Latest Flex App Version:
    1. Make sure the Flex app is up-to-date on your phone/tablet. You can download the latest version from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  2. Pair Your Flex Mini:
    1. iOS: Tap the Flex Mini in Bluetooth settings and wait for the "Connected" indication.
    2. Android: Complete the Bluetooth pairing process, then proceed to the next step.
  3. Confirm Internet Access
    1. Make sure your smartphone or tablet is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or cellular data.
  4. Open the Flex App:
    1. Launch the Flex app on your device and wait for it to detect your Flex Mini.
  5. Complete Registration and Firmware Updates:
    1. If prompted, follow the registration process and install any pending firmware updates.
  6. Start the Upgrade:
    1. Wait approximately 15 seconds. Your Flex Mini should automatically display a “GNSS FW” upgrade progress screen.
      1. If the screen does not appear, reboot your Flex Mini. The upgrade mode should appear upon startup.
  7. Let the Upgrade Run:
    1. The upgrade process will take approximately 5-8 minutes. Allow the upgrade to complete.
  8. Reboot After Upgrade:
    1. Once the upgrade finishes, reboot your Flex Mini again. It should now display a model number of BE-GPS-3500 on the LCD screen during boot and when it reappears in the Flex app.

Troubleshooting:

  1. If you encounter any errors or your device locks up during the upgrade, wait for a minute. If the issue persists, perform a hard reset:
    1. Press and hold the power button (top left) for 15-20 seconds until the LCD screen turns off.
    2. Power the device back on and restart the upgrade process.
