Bluetooth GPS: Android Mock Location App settings
This article will specify how each mock location app will select a Bad Elf GPS as it's
main GPS receiver. Allowing the mock location workflow to take over as the main
GPS receiver for the Android phone/tablet.
To user a mock location app for your Android device please be sure to download
the mock location apps and enable Developer options to select your mock
location app before moving on to this step:
If you are going to use a different mock location app this must also be selected
in the Developer options > Mock Location Provider before you open and use
the app itself.
GPS Connector
Configure GPS Connector to user your Bad Elf GPS receiver, open the application
and tap the gear at the top right corner (settings) > Tap GNSS Device and select
Bluetooth
Tap Additional settings and select the name of your Bad Elf GPS device
- Once your Bad Elf GPS is selected as the main receiver, back up to
the main page and double check what is being fed into your mock
location work flow.
NTRIP Client Configuration:
Configuring NTRIP Client to user your Bad Elf GPS receiver, open the application
and tap the gear at the top right corner (settings) > tap Receiver Connection and
select External via Bluetooth
Tap Bluetooth Device then tap the name of the paired Bad Elf GPS device.
Back up to the main screen and tap: Connect. Once connected the main
screen will also server as a live status check for you Bad Elf GPS
Bluetooth GNSS configuration:
Configuring Bluetooth GNSS app to use your Bad Elf GPS receiver. Open the Bluetooth
GNSS app and tap Settings (gear icon). Under the Selected Target Bluetooth Device section, tap Select… and pick the Bad Elf GPS receiver from the list. Then tap Save.
Tap the back button or navigate to the main screen of the app, then tap the floating Bluetooth
symbol at the bottom right corner of the app. This will open the Bluetooth connection to your
Bad Elf GPS receiver and show your real-time location information. You may need to go
outside to get a GPS lock.
At this point, the position information from your Bad Elf GPS will be flowing into the
Mock Location framework. Open your desired location-based app (Google Maps,
Google Earth Ect) and verify it is displaying your real-time location as expected.
If any of the mock location apps are not loading right away you can try force
closing the app and trying again. Or try rebooting both the Bad Elf GPS and
the phone/tablet and try again.
