Problem

When using the Bad Elf Flex or Flex Mini with CAD programs such as AutoCAD, the file format needs to be converted to import points successfully.

Solution

Follow this step-by-step guide to using your high accuracy Bad Elf Flex GNSS receiver with AutoCAD.
InfoConsider using the ArcGIS for AutoCAD plugin if collecting points in the Esri ArcGIS system.

Step-by-Step

  1. Export your logs via the app or USB.
  2. Open the CSV using a spreadsheet editor such as Excel or Google Sheets.
  3. Reorganize the columns as point name, longitude, latitude, and final orthometric height (elevation).
    1. IMPORTANT: CSV must not have headers.

  4. Optional: Convert elevation units from meters to feet by dividing meters by 0.3048.

  5. Download the CSV.
    1. IMPORTANT: Close CSV before importing to AutoCAD.
  6. Open drawing in AutoCad.
  7. Type the "EDITDRAWINGSETTINGS" command.

  8. Under "Units and Zone", define drawing units as "Feet" and coordinate system under "Zone".

  9. Open toolspace and right click "Points" and select "Create".

  10. In "Create Points" popup window, select "Import Points". Select CSV.

  11. Under "Specify point file format", select "PENZ (comma delimited)".

  12. Optional: Select "Add Points to Point Group" and add point group.

  13. Select "Do coordinate transformation if possible" checkbox and click OK.

  14. Your projected points are now added to the drawing.
