Bad Elf Flex: Creating Topographic Elevation Surface in CAD

Problem

When using the Bad Elf Flex or Flex Mini with CAD programs such as AutoCAD, individual points need to be processed to create topographic elevation surface.

Solution

Follow this step-by-step guide to creating a topographic surface with contours using AutoCAD after collecting points with your high accuracy Bad Elf Flex GNSS receiver.
InfoConsider using the ArcGIS for AutoCAD plugin if collecting points in the Esri ArcGIS system.

Step-by-Step

  1. Export your logs via the app or USB.
    1. Use this guide.
  2. Filter CSV export to include only topographic points.
  3. Import points into CAD with this guide.
    1. IMPORTANT: Import topo points to their own point group.
  4. Open "Prospector" view in "Toolspace".
  5. Right click "Surfaces" and select "Create Surface".

  6. In "Create Surface" popup window, name the surface and define the contour intervals under "Style" and "Render Material".


  7. In your "Toolspace" window, expand your newly created surface and the definition list.  Right click "Point Groups" and click "Add".


  8. Select your topo point group that you created on import and click "OK".


  9. Your contours are now added to the drawing.
