Troubleshooting Workflow

  1. Unpair all devices from the Bad Elf Flex

  2. Unpair any other Bad Elf receivers or currently connected Bluetooth devices from the mobile device

  3. Update the firmware on the Bad Elf Flex, update the Bad Elf Flex app, and update the mobile device operating system to the latest version.

  4. Restart the mobile device and the Bad Elf Flex

  5. Open the Bad Elf Flex app

  6. Position mobile device near Bad Elf Flex (no further than 25 feet), and avoid excessive Wi-Fi signals as this can cause interference.

  7. Pair the Bad Elf Flex with the mobile device after restarting, and accept the pairing request.

  8. Pair any accessories with the Bad Elf Flex (see Accessories below)

Best Practices

Setup

  • During pairing, accept the pairing request on both devices. The order the request is accepted does not matter.

  • Ensure both the Bad Elf Flex Firmware, the Bad Elf Flex app, and the mobile device operating system are updated to the most recent version available.

  • If using accessories, pair them to the Bad Elf Flex before starting the survey

During Survey

  • Any previously paired devices within Bluetooth range will pair automatically

  • Prior to use, unpair all devices on the Bad Elf Flex that will not be paired during the survey.

  • Stay within 30 feet of Flex to avoid Bluetooth disconnects

  • If possible, avoid excessive Wi-Fi interference by turning off unused Wi-Fi and mobile hotspots

  • Have no more than one mobile device (not including accessories) connected to the Bad Elf Flex at all times

Accessories

  • When using accessories like a LTI TruPulse Laser Rangefinder or a Harxon Radio, ensure the accessory has Bluetooth enabled

  • If using Base/Rover, label corresponding Bad Elf Flex and Harxon radio and pair them accordingly.  Always use the same combination, they will pair automatically when powered on.

  • Base/Rover does not require a mobile device to be connected to the Bad Elf Flexes. However, we do recommend you use the app to take advantage of the checklist guided setup process.

  • For Base/Rover, the mobile device can be connected to both Bad Elf Flexes simultaneously.  After setting up the Base, the mobile device will not attempt to reconnect after moving out of range, as the Base is operating autonomously.

  • Please see our Laser Rangefinder setup guide for information with the rangefinder
