Bluetooth GPS: Configuring a Simplified NMEA set
By default, your Bad Elf is designed to stream the full complement of NMEA sentences available from its specific GNSS Engine to a connected non-iOS client. On occasion, the NMEA parser built into the 3rd party software can't handle one or several of these messages. In this scenario reducing the broadcast set to the most basic configuration, GPGGA + GPRMC, will remove any issue.
This configuration is for non-iOS clients connected over Bluetooth to either a Bad Elf GPS Pro, Bad Elf GPS Pro+, or Bad Elf GNSS Surveyor.
To access this configurable feature your Elf needs to be ON and connected to your iOS device. Open the
Bad Elf GPS app and tap the tab in the menu for your Elf.
Tap Bluetooth Settings from the subsequent menu.
In the main window pane, scroll down to the setting Streaming NMEA. Tap the cell to open the configurable
options.
On the next screen select Simplified NMEA, your Bad Elf is now configured to broadcast the minimum NMEA
payload.
This full broadcast set of sentences comprises the following messages on the different models.
Bad Elf GPS Pro: GPGGA, GPRMC, GPGSV, GPGSA,
Bad Elf GPS Pro+: GPGGA, GPRMC, GPGSV, GLGSV, GNGSA
Bad Elf GNSS Surveyor: GPGGA, GPRMC, GPGSV, GPGSA, GPGST
